Family

I love watching families interact with each other. Each family is a culture in and of itself. Parents interact with their children differently. Adult children interactions with their parents can be fascinating. Each family is different and the relationships within a family are different. Three sisters will have a varied mix in their relationships with one another. Things can be fine and then when the other sister shows up, the entire atmosphere changes.

I think this is one of the reasons that having a successful family is so difficult. Family relationships are complicated. Yet, as the economic crisis in America grows, I found that your family is what matters the most. Our possessions will fade away. We could lose everything we have in a moment. One extended hospital stay could take everything but your family last forever. Your relationships with them are eternal.

Make some special investments in your family in 2009. Repair any broken relationships. Heal any wounds. Don't take them for granted. Life is too short. Much of everything else is on shaky ground. Build your home on a rock.

Guidance for 2009

I was doing my devotions this morning and was reading through the Psalms. In Psalm 5 David was praying to God and I loved his request. In the New Living Version is says David asked God to
1) Lead him in the way he should go
2) Tell him clearly what he was to do
3) Show David which way to turn

David asked God to lead, tell, and show him the way. In 2009 I want to hear from God. I want His direction in my life. I am facing big decisions, large challenges, and great opportunities. In my own mind, I don't know what to do but God does. He can lead, tell, and show me the way. He can do the same for you. The Holy Spirit comes along beside you and guides you into all truth. You can trust him.

God provides

We had a wonderful service today. I really believe that 2009 is going to be a good year for the people of First A/G. Psalm 37:19 says in the midst of famine God's people will have plenty. I believe that to be true. While the foundations of our economy are shaking, God is still in control and God takes care of His children. His reputation in on the line. When earthly parents fail to provide for their children, they are guilty of neglect. God will never be guilty of neglect. He is faithful. He will never leave you or forsake you. You can be confident that God will take care of you in 2009.

On a sad note, Charles & Tyler left for school. It was good to have them home for Christmas break. It went by fast. It will be a couple of months before we get to see them again.

Cathy's parents in car accident

I have not been posting lately. I took a little holiday break. For those that do not know last Sunday night Cathy's parents were in a car accident. They were on their way to church, when a car crossed the center line on 416, and hit their car. They both have a broken sternum. In addition Billy has a collapsed lung and Beverly has a broken rib and swollen knee. They took more x-rays today. Cathy has spent most this week at the hospital with her sister taking care of them. It has been an unusual holiday. It brought to an end an unusual year. Please keep them in prayer.
