October 12 devotional

Scripture
1 Thessalonians 5:6
“So be on guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be sober.”
Observation
Paul was teaching on the second coming of Jesus. Jesus is coming like a thief in the night. His coming will be unexpectant. He said we will not know the day or hour. So Paul commands us to be on guard. Stay alert and sober. We do not live our lives in fear of his coming but in anticipation of his coming. We are to watch and pray.
Application
When Jesus comes I want to be prepared in two ways.
1) I want to be living a life pleasing to Him. I desire to cause God to smile. I want to be as a bride without spot or wrinkle.'
2) I want to be busy about His work. I want to be found investing into the expansion of his kingdom. I desire to see as many people saved as possible in the time remaining.
Prayer
Come soon Lord Jesus come soon. May I be found faithful, ready, and pleasing to you. May I work while it is day.

October 11 devotional

Scripture
Jeremiah 17: 7-8
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruit.”
Observation
They key to this passage is placing my trust and confidence in Jesus. If I place my hope and confidence into Him I will:
1) Be blessed
2) Be like a tree planted by a riverbank. My roots will be deep.
3) I will overcome worry during difficult times.
4) I will prosper and be successful.
Application
Life is not that complicated. During times of intense heat and drought, I need to trust God. I need to put my confidence into Jesus and not my own efforts or others. Jesus is my answer. He is all I need.
Prayer
Teach me. So many times I fail at this. I get overcome by worry and anxiety. Teach me to trust you at all times. Today I place my confidence in you.
