August 19 devotional

Scripture

Psalm 36: 5-6 Your unfailing, love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds, Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.”

Observation

As you read through the Bible every once in a while you will come across some of the most beautiful language. It is poetry. Psalm 36: 5-6 is one of those passages. What incredibly beautiful language. David is describing God. He is describing his love, faithfulness, righteousness, and justice. These are some of the attributes of God but notice the adjectives. He uses phrases: as vast as the heavens, beyond the clouds, like the mighty mountains, like the ocean depths. What beautiful words.

Application

God is worthy of my praise and worship. Worship is more than a song. It can be a love letter, a poem, or anything else that brings glory to God. When I dated my wife I tried to communicate my love to her in more than one way. I took her on dates. I wrote her love letters. I served her. I spared her my singing because it is bad. The point is that I wanted her to know how much I loved her and I communicated to her in many ways. I encourage you to do the same with God. Worship him in more than one way. You may not be a poet and you may not be able to write this kind of words but you can express your love to God. Do it in your way. Don’t try to be somebody else. Just express your love, thoughts, and feelings to God. It will be beautiful to his ears.

Prayer

I love you. I worship you. I praise you. You are great. You are mighty. You are wonderful. You are my savior. You are my healer. You are my provider. You are my deliverer. You are the baptizer. You are the soon coming king! I love you. You are my God. I thank you for all the things you have done for me. You are great. I love you so much.
