Scripture
Psalm 4:4 “Don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.”
Observation
Everyone gets angry. Circumstances can make me angry. People can make me angry. I will get angry but I cannot let my anger gain control over me. I must have a process to sift through my anger. David said when you get angry keep your mouth shut. Don’t speak. When you are angry you will say things that you will regret later. Your tone will be angry. My words will be hurtful. So take time to think about it before you speak. Be slow to anger, slow to speak, and quick to listen. If I take time to settle down and think about my response, I will do better. I will be more Christ- like.
Application
I need to be full of the spirit so the Holy Spirit has control over my tongue. My tongue is full of deadly poison. It can cause a lot of damage and hurt people. The tongue is hard to control but if I walk by the spirit, I can win the battle over the flesh. I must learn to be silent. Don’t speak in anger. Take time to think. Respond in a Godly manner. That is pleasing to the Lord.
Prayer
Father, I admit that there are times when I have spoken in anger. I know my words are hurtful and have hurt others. I ask for your forgiveness. I admit that what I did was sin and wickedness in your eyes. I want to control my tongue. I want to bless and not curse. Give me a fresh filling of your Spirit today. I ask that I will walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh.
