Scripture
John 6: 56-58, 63 “All who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I in them. I live by the power of the living Gather who sent me; in the same way, those who partake of me will live because of me. I am the true bread from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever and not die as your ancestors did, even though they ate the manna. It is the Spirit who gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.”
Observation
Communion is symbolic of eating his flesh and drinking his blood. We are saved through the power of the cross. Jesus is the true bread of heaven. Partaking with him, identifying in his death and resurrection provides my salvation. My efforts are meaningless. I cannot earn or purchase my salvation. I am only saved through identification of what Jesus did.
I live this Christian life by living by His words. The words of Jesus are spirit and life. The manna from heaven is the Word of God. As I eat, digest, God’s Word it will produce spirit and life within me. I will grow in wisdom, knowledge, and discernment. I will become more like Jesus as I meditate on His teachings.
Application
I must daily eat at the Lord’s Table. I must digest His food. I read, learn, and meditate on the Bible. God’s Word gives me life. God’s Word makes me alive. God’s Word equips me for living. I renew my mind by flooding it with the Bible. Jesus is the Word. As I study the Bible I am not just learning about Jesus, I am having an encounter with Jesus. Jesus is the Word. God’s Word is quickened within me, which is an encounter with God. I do not study the Bible just to grow in knowledge. Knowledge puffs up. I study the Bible to have an encounter with God. An encounter with God, through God’s Word, changes me. I need to have a regular, consistent, systematic study of the Bible.
Prayer
Father I ask that your word change me. I do not want to stay the same. When I come to your table and study the Bible, I ask that it will lead to an encounter with Jesus. I ask that your Word be quickened within me. I ask that it come alive in my Spirit and lead to my transformation. I ask that you renew my mind with your word. I ask that I will live my life with a Biblical worldview. I want to see the world through the lens of the Bible. In Jesus name.
