Bible reading for May 9

Scripture

1 Samuel 7:12 “Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer- “the stone of help”- for he said, Up to this point the Lord had helped us.”

Observation

These incidents of scripture reveal God’s character to us. The large stone and its name reveal who God is. God is Ebenezer. He is the stone of help. He is my help. Up to this point in my life, God has helped me. He is my “right now” help. I can trust Him for this moment. I can count on him for this time. I do not have to worry about the future. He is already there and when I get there he will be my help at that point. Today He is my right now help. God is Ebenezer. God is my stone of help.

Application

I will not live in fear. I will not be overcome with anxiety and worry. I am not concerned with what the Devil will throw at me. God is my stone of help. God is at my side. He will help me at this point in my life. I will not fear. I will not be afraid. God is my stone of help. I praise His name. I rejoice in Him. He is my help. He is my strength. He is my strong tower. He is my refuge. He is my defender. He is my hope. At this point in my life, right now, God is my help. He has helped me in my past. He is with me in the present. He has assured me of my future. I will not fear. I will not be afraid. God is “the stone of help.”

Prayer

Father, I place my faith and trust in you. I surrender my fears, anxieties, and troubles to you. I will not be afraid. I trust you. I have complete confidence that you will help me defeat my enemies and that you will help me in my troubles. I can trust in you. Praise the Lord! God is my stone of help.
